From the Volunteer Committee Chair- Wink Beadel
Wow! Our volunteers are absolutely amazing! We were able to resume our “Introduction to the Clayton Opera House Orientation” this year with two sessions, one in May and another in early June. We added more than 26 NEW folks to our numbers this year, bringing our numbers to well over 80. AND... we’ve added another 6 who want to start after the first of the year!
We had more than 50 shows this year and our volunteers racked up more than 1,500 hours by September!! I should add that this number does not include the Opera House Board of Directors, all of whom serve on various committees, as well as the monthly meetings.
Our schedulers, Jane O’Neill and Judie Petersen, emailed and called our volunteers endlessly and reported great success lining up help for our shows, as well as a volunteer willingness to work in whatever area the volunteers were assigned (concessions, handicapped elevator, ticket taker, etc.). While our volunteers know we couldn’t function without them, there are two individuals who have been particularly outstanding, both this year and in the past. We honored JUNE DENNY at our Volunteer Celebration at the end of the year! June has been an Opera House volunteer since the original production of “Slick of 76,” which was performed for the first time in the ‘70’s! At over 90, June says she is now officially “retiring” from our volunteer ranks! Our second outstanding individual is JANE LEAHY. Jane volunteered to be Chef for our wine-pairings, serves on the Volunteer Committee, and had, on numerous occasions, acted as Volunteer Coordinator for a number of shows.
Being a volunteer is not only fun...one gets to see whatever show is playing AND make new friends. If YOU’RE interested in joining our volunteer family, call Paige in the Box Office at 315-686-2200.
