Progress Tracker

Renovations to restore the historic Clayton Opera House began just before Thanksgiving.  The unseasonably warm weather in Clayton has helped the construction crews "chip away" at the demolition needed to prepare the hall for reconstruction.  Please take a look at our progress to date:

In early January, wall forms were erected and a large cement pump truck was brought in to pour the walls for the addition foundation.   Shortly after the walls were poured, winter came to Clayton.  The contractors built a tent over the foundation so they could continue working.  Here you can see how they rolled the tent back to receive the concrete for the addition floor.   The crew demonstrates the art of "bullfloating."   Theatre Manager Barry Pratt was interviewed by local news reporter Caroline Tucker.  A story about the renovation was featured on the Channel 7 evening news.

Here contractors rip out part of the lobby floor...   ...to make room for the elevator shaft.    In the balcony, the two construction workers follow on the heels of the electricians, putting up sheetrock that was removed to run the electrical wires.   A worker makes detailed cuts in  sheetrock to resurface the lobby walls.

After the sheetrock is hung, the seems are taped and plastered.    Building materials are temporarily stored on the sidewalk along the Merrick Street side of the building.    Steel riggers arrived on the scene with a large crane to frame the addition.
